Possible Causes

Lid not fully locked, Deformed lid locking tab, Faulty lid-closed microswitch, Damaged lid hinge assembly

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the Bella multicooker before inspecting the lid or switch. Never bypass safety switches.

  • Check lid alignment: Open and close the lid several times. Make sure the lid is fully seated and you hear/feel a distinct click from the locking mechanism.
  • Inspect the locking tab: Look at the plastic or metal tab on the lid that engages the body. If it is bent, cracked, or worn, the switch may not be triggered. Minor deformation can sometimes be corrected by gently bending back into shape, but cracked parts should be replaced.
  • Clean the latch area: Food residue or dried sauce around the latch can prevent full closure. Wipe the latch and mating surfaces with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
  • Test the lid switch: With the unit unplugged, gently press the lid switch actuator (usually a small plastic post or lever inside the rim) with a non-metal tool. Plug in and see if E1 clears when the switch is firmly engaged and a program is selected. If the error only clears when you manually press the switch, the lid or hinge is misaligned or the switch is failing.
  • Replace the lid switch or lid assembly if needed: If the switch feels loose, does not click, or E1 persists despite proper closure, the lid-closed switch or lid assembly should be replaced. This typically requires removing the top cover screws from the underside of the lid or upper housing.
