Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the multicooker and allow it to cool completely before opening any panels. Never work on the unit while it is connected to power.
E1 on many Black+Decker multicookers indicates the bottom temperature sensor is not being detected.
- Power reset: Unplug the cooker for 5 minutes, then plug back in and try a simple program (e.g., White Rice) with an empty, dry inner pot to rule out a control glitch.
- Check inner pot seating: Remove the inner pot, wipe the underside dry, and ensure no food residue or warped metal is preventing full contact with the heater plate. Reseat the pot firmly.
- Inspect bottom sensor area: With the unit unplugged, look inside at the center of the heater plate. Confirm the small temperature sensor disc or button is clean and not bent or pushed down excessively. Wipe gently with a soft cloth.
- Check for loose wiring (advanced): If comfortable and the warranty has expired, remove the bottom cover (usually Phillips screws). Locate the NTC sensor leads coming from the heater plate to the main control board. Ensure the plug is fully seated and there are no broken or burned wires.
- When to stop: If the sensor wiring is damaged or the sensor is physically loose from the heater plate, replacement of the sensor assembly or heater plate is required and is best done by a qualified technician.
