E5
Black+Decker
Overpressure / Overheat Protection in Pressure Mode
E5 error appears during pressure cooking; unit stops heating and may release steam.

Possible Causes
Blocked steam release valve, Clogged anti-block shield on lid, Faulty pressure sensor reading excessive pressure, Stuck float valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not attempt to open the lid while the cooker is under pressure. Unplug the unit and allow it to depressurize naturally until the float valve drops.
- Inspect steam release valve: Once fully depressurized and cool, remove the steam release handle/valve from the lid. Clean any food particles or starch buildup. Ensure the valve moves freely.
- Clean anti-block shield: Many Black+Decker lids have a metal anti-block shield over the steam outlet. Remove it (usually clips off) and clean thoroughly. Rinse and dry before reinstalling.
- Check float valve: Push the float valve up and down from inside the lid. It should move freely and not stick. Clean around the silicone gasket and valve body.
- Verify gasket condition: Inspect the large silicone lid gasket for deformation, cracks, or food residue. A damaged gasket can cause erratic pressure readings. Replace if worn.
- Test with water only: After cleaning, run a short pressure cycle with only water to confirm the error is cleared.
