Possible Causes
Defective Start button on keypad, Damaged touch panel, Loose keypad ribbon cable, Firmware lockup
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before opening any covers.
- Reset: Unplug for 10 minutes, then plug back in and try again. Sometimes a firmware lockup can be cleared this way.
- Check for child lock: Some Black+Decker models have a key lock feature. Consult the manual to see if a long-press on a specific button toggles a lock icon.
- Test other buttons: If other buttons respond but Start does not, the Start key contact may be worn. Lightly press around the button area to see if it responds intermittently.
- Inspect ribbon cable (advanced): Remove the control panel cover and reseat the ribbon cable between the keypad and main board.
