Possible Causes

Loose NTC sensor connector on main PCB, Damaged NTC temperature sensor under the heating plate, Broken sensor wiring harness, Failed sensor input circuit on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the cooker and let it cool completely before removing the inner pot or touching internal components.

  • Remove inner pot: Take out the stainless steel or non-stick inner bowl and inspect the central sensor area in the base.
  • Clean sensor surface: Wipe the small metal temperature sensor disc or post with a soft cloth to remove burnt-on food or residue that may interfere with readings.
  • Check for moisture: Ensure there is no liquid pooled around the sensor or in the base. If moisture is present, dry thoroughly and allow the unit to air-dry for several hours.
  • Inspect sensor wiring (if accessible): On some Breville models, you can remove the bottom cover (with the unit unplugged) to check that the NTC sensor plug is firmly seated on the main PCB and that wires are not pinched or broken.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit the inner pot, plug in the unit, and run a low-temperature program. If E1 returns immediately, the NTC sensor or control board likely needs replacement by a qualified technician.
