Possible Causes

Overheated base due to dry cooking, Thermal fuse partially open, NTC sensor reading out of range, Poor contact between inner pot and heating plate, Failed overtemperature circuit on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If the cooker was in use, unplug it and allow it to cool for at least 30–60 minutes before further checks.

  • Allow full cool-down: Leave the lid open and inner pot removed so trapped heat can escape. Do not attempt to restart until the base is cool to the touch.
  • Check for dry cooking: Confirm there was sufficient liquid or food in the pot. Running the cooker empty can trigger E2. Always follow Breville's minimum liquid guidelines.
  • Inspect inner pot bottom: Ensure the bottom of the pot is flat, clean, and free of burnt-on residue that could cause hot spots or poor contact with the heating plate.
  • Clean heating plate: Wipe the aluminum heating plate gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Remove any carbonized food or oil, then dry completely.
  • Test with water: After cooling and cleaning, add 2–3 cups of water to the pot, reinstall it, and run a low setting (e.g., "Slow Cook Low"). If E2 reappears quickly, the thermal sensor or thermal fuse may be faulty and professional service is advised.
