Possible Causes
Insufficient liquid in inner pot, Food stuck and burning on bottom, Blocked steam release or float valve causing localized overheating, Faulty NTC sensor calibration, Damaged non-stick coating causing hot spots
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit. If under pressure, do not force the lid open. Use the pressure release method recommended in the manual and keep hands and face away from steam.
- Release pressure safely: Once safe, open the lid and inspect the contents. If food is heavily scorched on the bottom, discard safely.
- Check liquid level: Ensure you are using at least the minimum liquid specified by Breville for pressure or high-heat modes.
- Clean inner pot thoroughly: Soak and clean the inner pot, especially the bottom. Avoid metal tools that can damage the coating.
- Clean heating plate and sensor: With the unit unplugged and cool, wipe the heating plate and central sensor area to remove any burnt residue.
- Test with water only: Add 2–3 cups of water to the clean pot and run a pressure or high-heat program. If E3 still appears, the temperature sensor or control board may be misreading and require replacement.
