Possible Causes
Blocked steam release valve, Blocked anti-block shield or steam vent, Excessive foaming foods (e.g., porridge, beans) clogging vent, Faulty pressure sensor calibration
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If steam is venting forcefully, keep clear and do not cover the steam outlet. Unplug the unit.
- Allow pressure to drop: Wait until the float valve drops and no steam is escaping before opening the lid.
- Inspect food type and fill level: Ensure you did not exceed the maximum fill line, especially with foamy or starchy foods. Follow Breville's guidelines for maximum volume under pressure.
- Clean steam path: Remove the steam release valve, anti-block shield, and any removable vent parts. Wash thoroughly to remove starch buildup or food particles.
- Check sealing ring and float valve: Clean and inspect these components to ensure they move freely and seal correctly.
- Test with water only: Run a short pressure cycle with just water. If E8 recurs, the pressure sensor or control board may be misreading and require service.
