Possible Causes

Blocked steam release valve, Clogged safety valve or anti-block shield, Sealing ring too tight or incorrectly installed, Faulty pressure sensor reading too high

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If the cooker is actively venting steam, keep hands and face away from the steam path. Do not cover the lid. Allow pressure to drop naturally or use the quick-release method as described in the Brock manual. Unplug the unit.

  • Clean steam release valve: Once fully depressurized and cool, remove the steam release valve cap. Check for food particles or starch blocking the vent. Clean thoroughly with warm water and a small brush.
  • Inspect anti-block shield: Many Brock lids have a removable metal shield over the steam outlet. Remove it, clean both sides and the underlying hole, then reinstall securely.
  • Check sealing ring: Remove the silicone sealing ring, wash it, and inspect for swelling, deformation, or hardening. Refit it evenly in the lid groove. Replace if damaged.
  • Do not overfill: Ensure you are not exceeding the MAX fill line, especially with foamy foods like beans or porridge. Overfilling can block the steam path.
  • Test again: Run a short pressure cycle with only water. If E5 recurs with clean components and correct fill, the pressure sensor or control board may be faulty and should be serviced.
