Possible Causes

Food stuck to bottom of inner pot, Insufficient liquid for selected program, Inner pot not making full contact with heating plate, Faulty temperature sensor reading too high

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the cooker and allow it to cool before cleaning. Do not add cold liquid to a very hot pot; it may warp.

  • 1. Check food and liquid: Open the lid and stir the contents. If food is thick or stuck to the bottom, add more liquid and deglaze the bottom with a wooden spoon.
  • 2. Clean inner pot: Remove the pot and soak any burnt-on food. Avoid metal scouring pads that can damage the nonstick coating.
  • 3. Clean heating plate: Once cool, wipe the heating plate and central sensor area with a soft, damp cloth, then dry thoroughly. Remove any residue that could cause hot spots.
  • 4. Reseat pot: Ensure the inner pot sits flat and rotates slightly on the plate, indicating good contact.
  • 5. Retry with proper liquid: Follow Chefman’s minimum liquid guidelines for pressure or rice cooking. If “HOT” appears repeatedly with adequate liquid, the temperature sensor may be faulty and require replacement.
