Possible Causes
Defective pressure transducer on main PCB or lid, Pressure sensor tube or port blocked with food residue, Control board firmware fault or calibration loss
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the cooker and ensure it is cool and depressurized before working on pressure components.
- Clean pressure path: Remove the lid. Disassemble the steam release valve and anti-block shield (if fitted). Clean all parts thoroughly to remove starch or food buildup that could block pressure sensing.
- Inspect float valve: Remove and clean the float valve and its silicone gasket. Ensure it moves freely up and down in its guide.
- Check pressure port: On some models, a small port or channel leads from the lid to the pressure sensor. Use a soft brush or toothpick to gently clear any blockage (do not enlarge the hole).
- Power reset: After cleaning, leave the unit unplugged for 10–15 minutes. Plug back in and attempt a short pressure cycle with sufficient liquid.
- Environment check: Avoid using the cooker at extreme altitudes without adjusting recipes; however, altitude alone should not trigger E5 unless the sensor is marginal.
- When to replace: If E5 appears immediately on power-up or persists after cleaning, the pressure sensor or main control board is likely faulty. These are not typically user-serviceable; contact Crock-Pot support or a qualified technician for board or lid sensor replacement.
