Possible Causes
Residual pressure trapped due to clogged vent, Warped lid or locking ring, Food residue in locking mechanism
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Never force the lid open if you suspect the cooker is still under pressure. Keep hands and face away from the steam vent.
- Verify pressure release: Ensure the steam release valve is in the VENT position. If no steam escapes and the float valve is down, pressure should be released.
- Gently move lid: With oven mitts, gently wiggle the lid back and forth without forcing. Sometimes the gasket can stick slightly.
- Cool down: Allow the cooker to cool for an additional 20–30 minutes. Cooling can contract components and release tension on the lock.
- Inspect after opening: Once open, clean the lid locking lugs, ring, and mating surfaces on the cooker body to remove dried food.
- Check for warping: Inspect the lid and locking ring for distortion. If the lid frequently sticks, replace the lid assembly or locking ring if available separately.
