Possible Causes
Cooking foamy foods (pasta, beans) without enough oil or fat, Anti-block shield clogged with starch, Releasing pressure too quickly for contents
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Keep hands and face away from the steam vent. Use a long utensil to operate the valve if needed.
- Natural release: For foamy foods, allow pressure to drop naturally for 10–15 minutes before switching to quick release.
- Clean anti-block shield: Once cool and depressurized, remove the lid and take off the anti-block shield (metal or plastic cover over the steam port). Clean thoroughly to remove starch buildup.
- Adjust recipes: Add a small amount of oil and avoid overfilling when cooking beans, grains, or pasta.
- Inspect valve: Ensure the steam release valve path is clear and not partially blocked, which can cause erratic spraying.
- Replacement: If the anti-block shield is damaged or warped, replace it as part of the lid steam assembly.
