Possible Causes
Lid not in locked position, Pressure release valve in vent position, Defective lid lock microswitch, Worn lid locking tabs
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure the cooker is cool and depressurized before adjusting the lid or valve.
- Lock the lid correctly: Place the lid on the cooker aligning the arrows or marks, then rotate until it stops and you feel resistance. Some Cuisinart models require the handle to be pushed down to engage the lock.
- Set pressure valve: Confirm the pressure release valve is in the Sealed or Pressure position, not Vent. The cooker may show OPEN if it detects the valve is not set for pressure.
- Check lid tabs and ring: Inspect the locking tabs on the lid and the mating ring on the cooker body. If they are cracked or excessively worn, the lid may not engage the lock switch.
- Test with non-pressure mode: Try a Sauté or Slow Cook program. If those work but pressure modes show OPEN, the lid lock switch or its wiring may be faulty.
- Professional service: Replacement of the lid lock switch or lid assembly is recommended if mechanical damage is found.
