Possible Causes

Lid not fully closed or locked, Defective lid position microswitch, Damaged lid switch wiring harness, Deformed lid locking mechanism

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect the multicooker from the mains before opening or disassembling anything.

Step-by-step checks:

  • Verify lid closure: Open the lid fully, inspect the rim and locking hooks for food debris or dried starch. Clean the contact areas with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Close the lid firmly until you hear a clear click.
  • Check lid lock movement: With the unit unplugged, move the lid lock slider (if present on your ETA model) back and forth. It should move smoothly and spring back. If it feels stuck, clean around the slider and apply a tiny amount of food-safe silicone spray to the mechanism (avoid overspray on the gasket).
  • Inspect lid switch actuator: On many ETA multicookers, a small plastic pin or tab on the lid presses a microswitch in the body. Confirm the pin is not broken or bent. If missing or cracked, the entire lid assembly may need replacement.
  • Check the microswitch (advanced): Remove the top cover according to the service manual. Locate the lid microswitch near the hinge or lock. Inspect the wiring harness for loose connectors or burnt marks. Reseat the connector firmly. If you have a multimeter and training, test the switch for continuity when pressed.
  • Reset the unit: Reassemble, plug in, and perform a power reset by unplugging for 5 minutes, then retry a simple program (e.g., reheat) with the lid fully locked.

When to call a technician: If the lid switch is physically broken, the wiring is damaged, or E1 persists after cleaning and reseating connectors, the lid switch circuit or control board should be serviced by a qualified technician.
