Possible Causes
Defective Start button on keypad, Loose keypad ribbon cable, Firmware lockup on control PCB, Child lock feature engaged (if equipped)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the cooker before opening the control panel.
- Check for child lock: Some Hamilton Beach models have a lock feature. Refer to the manual and try the key combination (often holding specific buttons) to unlock.
- Test other buttons: If only the Start button fails but others work, the keypad membrane may be worn at that location.
- Reseat keypad cable: Remove the housing to access the control panel. Disconnect and reconnect the keypad ribbon cable to the main control PCB.
- Replace keypad: If the Start button remains unresponsive, replace the control panel keypad assembly. If multiple keys fail randomly, the main control PCB may also need replacement.
