Possible Causes
Open or shorted inner pot temperature sensor, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Failed main control board (PCB), Corroded sensor connector on cooker base
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Instant Pot and allow it to cool completely before any inspection. Never work on the unit while it is connected to power.
- 1. Power reset: Unplug the cooker for 10–15 minutes, then plug it back in and try a simple program like Saute. If C1 reappears immediately, continue below.
- 2. Check inner pot and base: Remove the stainless steel inner pot and inspect the heating plate and center sensor disc in the cooker base. Make sure there is no burnt food, warping, or debris. Clean gently with a soft cloth; do not scratch the sensor.
- 3. Inspect sensor area: Look at the small raised metal disc or button in the center of the heating plate (the temperature sensor contact). Ensure it is not bent, pushed in, or contaminated with residue. If bent, do not force it; this usually requires professional service.
- 4. Check for moisture: If liquid has spilled into the base, turn the unit upside down (unplugged) and let it dry for 24–48 hours in a warm, dry place. Do not use heat guns or ovens.
- 5. Test with a different inner pot: If available, try another compatible Instant Pot inner pot to rule out a warped or deformed pot that may be stressing the sensor.
- 6. If C1 persists: The internal temperature sensor or wiring harness is likely damaged. Replacement of the sensor assembly or main control board is required and is best done by an authorized technician.
