Possible Causes
Non-Instant Pot inner pot in use, Warped or deformed stainless steel inner pot, Inner pot not making proper contact with sensor, Foreign object between inner pot and heating plate
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Cancel the program and allow the unit to cool if hot.
- 1. Verify inner pot: Confirm you are using the original Instant Pot stainless steel inner pot designed for your specific model and size. Remove any aftermarket or mismatched pot.
- 2. Inspect for warping: Place the inner pot upside down on a flat countertop. If it rocks or you can see gaps, it is warped and should be replaced.
- 3. Clean contact surfaces: Remove the inner pot and wipe the bottom exterior and the heating plate with a dry, soft cloth. Remove any food, foil, or debris that could interfere with contact.
- 4. Reseat the pot: Place the pot back into the cooker, rotating slightly to ensure it sits flat and fully contacts the heating plate and center sensor.
- 5. Try a different pot: If you have another compatible Instant Pot inner pot, test with that. If C8 disappears, the original pot is defective.
- 6. If C8 persists with a correct, flat pot: The base sensor or detection circuit on the PCB may be faulty. Professional diagnosis and possible replacement of the sensor assembly or control board is required.
