Possible Causes
Misaligned lid, Defective lid-closed microswitch, Damaged lid sensor wiring harness, Deformed lid hinge or latch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Kenmore multicooker before inspecting the lid or internal parts. Never bypass safety switches.
- Check lid alignment: Open and close the lid several times. Make sure the lid hinge is not bent and the lid closes evenly on all sides. Remove any food debris or gasket material that may prevent full closure.
- Inspect the lid latch: Verify that the latch clicks firmly when closing. If it feels loose or does not engage, clean the latch area and check for broken plastic tabs.
- Clean the lid switch area: On many Kenmore multicookers, a small plastic tab on the lid presses a microswitch in the body. Wipe the area with a damp cloth and ensure the tab is not broken.
- Test with gentle pressure: With the unit plugged in and in standby, close the lid and gently press down on the center and front edge while starting a program. If it starts only when pressed, the lid switch or hinge is misaligned and may need replacement.
- Inspect wiring (advanced): Unplug the unit, remove the outer top cover (if you are comfortable and local regulations allow), and visually inspect the lid switch wiring harness for loose connectors or damaged insulation. Reseat any loose connectors.
If the error persists after cleaning and checking alignment, the lid switch assembly likely needs replacement.
