Possible Causes
Inner pot not installed, Inner pot warped and not contacting sensor, Cooking with very little liquid, Food stuck and burning on heating plate, Faulty thermal cutoff or thermostat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the multicooker and allow it to cool completely. Do not add water to a hot dry pot suddenly, as it may warp.
- Check inner pot placement: Ensure the original KitchenAid inner pot is installed, clean, and seated flat on the heating plate. Do not operate without the pot.
- Inspect for scorching: Remove the pot and check the bottom and the heating plate for burnt-on food. Clean gently with a non-abrasive sponge. Make sure no residue remains between the plate and the sensor area.
- Verify liquid level: For pressure or slow cook modes, ensure you are using at least the minimum liquid specified in the manual. Running too dry can trigger E4.
- Check pot condition: If the inner pot is heavily warped or dented, it may not make proper contact with the sensor, causing false overheat readings. Replace the pot if it rocks or spins easily on the plate.
- When to call a technician: If E4 appears immediately even with a proper pot and adequate liquid, the thermal cutoff or thermostat may be faulty and should be checked and replaced by a technician.
