Possible Causes

Misaligned lid, Faulty lid-closed microswitch, Damaged lid sensor wiring harness, Deformed lid hinge

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the multicooker and allow it to cool completely before inspecting the lid or internal parts.

  • Check lid alignment: Open and close the lid several times, making sure it is fully seated and the locking tab clicks into place. On many Lakeland multicookers, the lid must be turned or pressed down until you hear a distinct click.
  • Clean the lid area: Food residue or warped silicone around the rim can prevent the lid switch from engaging. Wipe the rim, lid underside, and locking notch with a damp cloth and mild detergent, then dry thoroughly.
  • Inspect the lid lock tab: Look for a cracked or bent plastic tab that presses the lid microswitch. If it is damaged, the switch will not register the lid as closed and the control board will show E1.
  • Check the lid switch movement: With the unit unplugged, gently press the small plastic actuator or metal lever where the lid tab contacts the body. It should move freely and spring back. If it feels stuck, carefully clean around it with a dry brush or compressed air.
  • Test with a different lid position: Slightly rotate or press down on the lid while attempting to start a program (plugged in, but keep hands away from steam vent). If E1 clears intermittently, the lid switch or hinge is likely worn and should be replaced.
  • When to replace parts: If the error persists after cleaning and checking alignment, the lid-closed microswitch or lid lock assembly is likely faulty and should be replaced. This usually requires opening the top cover; if you are not comfortable with electrical work, contact a qualified technician.
