Possible Causes
Lid not in LOCK position, Jammed mechanical lid lock, Worn lid lock spring, Faulty lid lock detection switch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Always ensure the cooker is unplugged when inspecting the lid lock mechanism. Never force the lid closed under pressure.
- Confirm lid position: Rotate or close the lid fully into the LOCK position as indicated on the housing. Many Lakeland models require aligning arrows or icons before the lock engages.
- Clean the locking ring: Food splashes can gum up the rotating lid ring. Wipe around the lid rim, locking slots, and the body’s mating surfaces with a damp cloth and mild detergent, then dry.
- Check the steam release valve: Ensure the valve is set to the correct 'Sealing' position for pressure cooking. Some models will show E5 if the valve is left in 'Venting'.
- Inspect the lock pin: With the cooker unplugged and cool, open the lid and locate the metal or plastic lock pin that moves up and down. Press it gently; it should move freely. If it sticks, clean around it carefully.
- Test lid switch: Close the lid and listen for a click from the lid lock switch. If there is no click and E5 persists, the lid lock switch or lid lock assembly may need replacement.
