Possible Causes

Residue on heating plate, New appliance burn-in, Melted plastic component near heater, Food spillage under inner pot

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If you smell strong burning plastic, unplug the cooker immediately.

  • Initial burn-in: New Lakeland multicookers may emit a mild odour during the first few uses. This should fade quickly.
  • Clean thoroughly: Remove the inner pot and clean the heating plate, inner chamber walls, and underside of the lid to remove any spilled food.
  • Inspect plastic parts: Look for discoloured or deformed plastic near the heating area, condensation collector, or base vents.
  • Ventilate: Run the cooker empty on a low setting with the lid open (if allowed by the manual) in a well-ventilated area to burn off minor residues.
  • When to replace: If the smell is strong and persistent, and you see melted or burnt plastic, stop using the cooker and have the affected internal plastic shrouds or wiring insulators replaced by a technician.
