Look for board damage: Inspect the control board for burnt components in the power supply section (near where the AC enters). If damage is visible, the board should be replaced.
Test again: Reassemble and test. If E8 recurs on a good outlet with a good cord, the internal power supply on the control board is likely failing and requires replacement.
