Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the multicooker and allow it to cool completely before inspecting the lid mechanism.
- Check lid closure: Open and firmly close the lid. Ensure the lid aligns with the body and the handle is fully down. Many Salter multicookers have a small plastic tab that must engage a switch in the body.
- Inspect the lid lock tab: Look for a cracked, bent, or worn plastic tab on the lid that presses the lid microswitch. If it is damaged, the switch will not register the lid as closed.
- Test the lid switch: With the unit unplugged, locate the lid-closed microswitch under the top cover (usually near the hinge). Gently press it by hand and listen for a distinct click. If there is no click or it feels loose, the switch may be faulty.
- Check wiring: Remove the top cover (screws under trim or handle) and inspect the small wiring harness from the lid switch to the main control board for broken, pinched, or burnt wires.
- Temporary workaround: If the lid is slightly misaligned, carefully adjust the hinge screws to ensure the lid closes squarely. Do not bypass or short the switch; this is a safety device.
If the switch does not click or continuity is not present when pressed (tested with a multimeter), replace the lid microswitch assembly.
