Possible Causes
Unplugged NTC sensor connector, Broken NTC sensor lead, Failed NTC thermistor, Damaged wiring between NTC and control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the cooker and let it cool fully. Never work on the unit while it is hot or connected to mains.
- Remove inner pot: Take out the removable cooking pot and inspect the central metal plate at the base where the sensor contacts the pot.
- Access the sensor: Turn the unit upside down on a soft cloth. Remove the base screws and carefully lift off the bottom cover to expose the heating plate and sensor wiring.
- Locate the NTC sensor: On most Salter multicookers, the NTC is a small metal or ceramic probe clipped to the underside of the heating plate or in the center of the plate, with two thin wires leading to the control board.
- Check connections: Ensure the NTC plug is firmly seated on the control PCB. Reseat the connector if loose. Look for any signs of corrosion or burnt pins.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the two sensor wires for cuts, burns, or pinched sections where the base meets the body.
- Test the sensor: Using a multimeter set to resistance, measure across the NTC leads. A typical reading is between 50kΩ–100kΩ at room temperature (exact value varies by model). An infinite or zero reading indicates a failed sensor.
If the sensor is open or shorted, replace the NTC sensor assembly. If wiring is damaged, repair or replace the harness.
