Possible Causes

Open-circuit main heating element, Loose heater terminals, Burnt thermal fuse on heater line, Faulty heater relay contacts

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the cooker and wait until it is completely cool. Capacitors on the PCB may retain charge; avoid touching bare contacts.

  • Access base: Turn the unit upside down and remove the base cover screws to expose the heating plate and wiring.
  • Inspect heater connections: Locate the two main heater terminals on the underside of the heating plate. Ensure spade connectors are tight and not burnt.
  • Check thermal fuse: Many Salter multicookers have an inline thermal fuse wrapped in heat-resistant sleeving on one of the heater wires. Inspect for discoloration or breaks. Test continuity; if open, replace with the same rating.
  • Test heating element: Disconnect power to the element and measure resistance across the heater terminals. A typical value is between 20–60Ω. Infinite resistance indicates a failed element.
  • Inspect relay on PCB: If the heater and fuse test good, the relay on the control board may be faulty. Look for heat damage or pitting; relay replacement requires soldering skills.

Replace the heating element or thermal fuse as needed. If the PCB relay is defective, replacing the entire control board is usually the most practical repair.
