Possible Causes
Warped lid locking pin, Dried food in locking slot, Misaligned lid hinge, Internal lid lock spring displaced
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Confirm that all pressure has been released. Gently move the steam release valve to ensure no steam escapes.
- Check float valve: Ensure the float valve is fully down. Gently tap the lid near the valve to free it if stuck.
- Wiggle lid gently: With the cooker unplugged and cool, gently twist the lid back and forth while lifting the handle. Do not force it.
- Inspect from inside: If accessible, look through the gap between lid and body to see if any food is lodged in the locking slot. Use a thin plastic tool to dislodge debris.
- Service lock mechanism: Once open, remove the top housing and inspect the lid lock lever and spring. Clean and lubricate lightly with food-safe silicone grease if recommended by Salter.
If the mechanical lock is bent or broken, replace the lid lock assembly. Never pry the lid open under pressure.
