Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the cooker and allow it to cool fully. Do not attempt to open the lid while under pressure.
Steps to resolve E3:
- 1. Check inner pot seating: Remove the inner pot and inspect the heating plate. Ensure there is no debris, warped metal, or foreign objects preventing full contact. Reinsert the pot, rotating it slightly to ensure it sits flat and stable.
- 2. Verify minimum liquid level: For pressure and high-heat programs, ensure you have at least the minimum water quantity specified in the Steba manual (often 200–500 ml). Running the cooker nearly dry can cause rapid overheating and E3.
- 3. Clean the bottom sensor and plate: Wipe off any burnt food or oil from the heating plate and sensor disc. Build-up can create hot spots and false overtemperature readings.
- 4. Inspect thermal protection devices (advanced): With the unit unplugged and base removed, locate the thermal fuse and bimetal thermostat attached to or near the heating plate. Check for signs of discoloration, cracking, or loose mounting. A thermostat that is not firmly attached may not sense temperature correctly.
- 5. Test NTC and thermostat: Measure the NTC resistance at room temperature and compare to expected values. Check continuity of the bimetal thermostat (should be closed at room temperature). Replace any component that is open when it should be closed or shows abnormal readings.
- 6. Avoid blocked ventilation: Ensure the cooker is used on a hard, flat surface with adequate space around it. Do not cover the base or block ventilation slots, as this can cause internal overheating.
When to seek service: If E3 appears immediately even with correct water level and a clean, properly seated pot, the NTC or control board may be defective and should be checked by a Steba service technician.
