Steba
Dry-Boil Protection / Extreme Overtemperature Shutdown
E9 is displayed and the cooker stops; may occur when the unit overheats without sufficient contents.

Possible Causes
Cooking with no or very little liquid, Severely burnt-on food insulating the sensor, Faulty overtemperature cutoff device, Inner pot not making proper contact with heating plate
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the cooker and allow it to cool completely. Do not add cold water to a very hot dry pot; it may warp.
Steps to clear E9:
- 1. Check contents: Open the lid and inspect the inner pot. If food is burnt to the bottom or there is no liquid, remove the pot and soak it separately. Do not scrape the heating plate.
- 2. Clean heating plate and sensor: Once cool, wipe the heating plate and central sensor with a damp cloth to remove any residue. Ensure the surface is smooth and clean.
- 3. Inspect inner pot base: Check the underside of the inner pot for warping or heavy carbon build-up. A warped pot may not contact the plate evenly and can cause hot spots. Replace the pot if significantly deformed.
- 4. Reset thermal protection (if manual reset type): Some models have a manual-reset thermostat accessible from the base. With the unit unplugged and base removed, look for a small button on the thermostat body and press it gently to reset.
- 5. Test with adequate water: Reassemble and run a low-temperature program with at least the minimum recommended water level to confirm normal operation.
Prevention: Always follow Steba's minimum liquid requirements and avoid using high-heat programs for extended periods without sufficient water.
