Possible Causes
Float valve stuck in up position due to starch, Pressure not fully released, Mechanical failure of lid lock, Deformed lid latch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not force the lid open. For pressure models, ensure pressure is fully released before attempting to open.
- Check pressure indicator: Confirm that any float or pressure indicator has dropped. If not, gently tap the lid near the float with a wooden spoon to help it drop.
- Manual venting: If safe and per the manual, carefully move the steam release to the vent position to ensure all pressure is released.
- Cool-down: Allow additional time for the cooker to cool; residual pressure can keep the lock engaged.
- After opening: Once open, remove and clean the float valve and lid lock area thoroughly to remove starch buildup. If the lock mechanism is bent or broken, it should be replaced.
