Possible Causes
Thermal fuse or bimetal thermostat tripped due to overheating, Poor contact between inner pot and heater plate, Excessive food stuck under inner pot or on heater plate, Failed main PCB temperature calibration causing false overheat detection
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the multicooker and allow it to cool completely. Do not attempt to reset thermal devices while the unit is hot.
- 1. Check pot and heater plate: Remove the inner pot and inspect the heater plate for burnt food, oil, or warped areas. Clean the plate with a soft cloth and mild detergent (no abrasives). Ensure the bottom of the inner pot is flat and clean.
- 2. Verify correct pot: Use only the original Toshiba inner pot designed for your model. Incorrect or deformed pots can cause hot spots and trigger E3.
- 3. Inspect thermal cutoff devices: Access the underside of the heater plate by removing the bottom cover. Locate the thermal fuse and/or bimetal thermostat attached to the heater assembly. Check for signs of overheating (discoloration, melted insulation).
- 4. Continuity test: With the unit unplugged, test the thermal fuse and thermostat with a multimeter. A blown thermal fuse will show open circuit and must be replaced with the exact temperature and current rating specified for Toshiba multicookers.
- 5. Check airflow and vents: Ensure side and bottom ventilation slots are not blocked by dust or cabinets. Overheating can occur if heat cannot escape.
- 6. If all hardware is OK: The main PCB may be misreading temperature and shutting down early. Replacement of the main control board may be required.
Never bypass a thermal fuse or thermostat; they are critical safety components.
