E5 error appears when trying to start a pressure program; cooker does not begin heating and may indicate lid/pressure issues.

Safety: Unplug the cooker before inspecting the lid lock mechanism.

• 1. Check lid closure: Ensure the lid is fully closed and rotated/latched according to the Toshiba manual. Press down gently on the lid and try starting the program again.
• 2. Inspect float valve: Remove and clean the float valve and its silicone gasket. Make sure it moves freely up and down and is not stuck with dried food or scale.
• 3. Test lid lock switch: With the unit unplugged, open the lid and locate the lid lock or position switch (usually near the hinge or latch). Manually actuate the latch and listen/feel for a click from the microswitch. If there is no click, the switch may be faulty or misaligned.
• 4. Electrical test: Access the switch wiring from inside the top cover or body. Use a multimeter to check continuity across the switch terminals when the lid is locked vs unlocked. Replace the lid lock microswitch if it does not change state.
• 5. Check wiring harness: Inspect the harness from the lid lock/float switch to the main PCB for breaks or pinched sections, especially around the hinge.
• 6. Reassemble and test: After repairs, run a water-only pressure cycle to confirm that E5 no longer appears.

Never force the lid closed; this can damage the locking mechanism and compromise safety.
