Possible Causes
Open or shorted lid NTC sensor, Broken flex cable or wiring in the lid hinge, Loose lid sensor connector on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before inspecting the lid or hinge area.
- Check lid closure: Ensure the lid is fully closed and latched. Some Xiaomi models will show E4 if the lid sensor is not properly engaged.
- Inspect lid sensor area: Open the lid and locate the small metal or plastic sensor near the steam vent or inner lid. Check for physical damage, corrosion, or moisture.
- Dry moisture: If you see condensation or water around the lid sensor, dry it gently with a soft cloth and leave the lid open for several hours before testing again.
- Check hinge wiring: On models with a wired lid, inspect the hinge area for pinched or broken wires. Gently move the lid while looking for exposed conductors.
- Internal connector check (advanced): With the unit unplugged, remove the top or side cover (depending on model) to access the lid sensor connector on the PCB. Reseat the connector and inspect for bent pins.
- Resistance test: If accessible, measure the lid NTC sensor resistance at room temperature and compare to the base sensor’s approximate value. A reading of 0 Ω or infinite resistance indicates a failed sensor.
- Replace lid sensor: If the sensor is defective or its cable is damaged, replace the lid temperature sensor or lid harness with a Xiaomi-compatible part.
- Professional help: If wiring and sensor appear intact but E4 persists, the control board’s sensor input may be faulty and should be diagnosed by a service center.
