Oven will not heat, display shows F1 shortly after a cooking program is started.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Switch off the oven at the wall isolator and remove the fuse or trip the circuit breaker before any work. Allow the oven to cool completely.
- Power reset: Turn off power for 5 minutes, then restore. Try a simple heating program (e.g. 180°C conventional). If F1 reappears, continue below.
- Check sensor resistance: Remove the oven from the cabinet enough to access the rear. Locate the main oven NTC temperature sensor (usually at the rear wall inside the cavity, with two wires leading out the back). Disconnect the sensor plug and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature (20–25°C) most AEG NTC sensors read roughly 500–1100 Ω (check your model’s service sheet if available). Infinite resistance indicates an open sensor; near 0 Ω indicates a short.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor harness from the cavity to the control board. Look for burnt, pinched, or broken wires and loose connectors. Reseat the plug on the control board.
- Replace sensor if faulty: If resistance is out of spec, remove the fixing screw(s) inside the cavity, pull out the sensor, and install a new AEG-compatible NTC sensor. Route the cable as originally and secure it away from hot metal edges.
- Control board check: If the sensor and wiring test good but F1 persists, the electronic oven control (EOC) may be defective. Visual inspection for burnt tracks or components can confirm suspicion, but replacement is typically required.
Warning: If you are not confident working with mains wiring or removing the oven from the cabinet, contact a qualified technician.
