AGA electric oven will not heat; display shows F1 shortly after a cooking program is started.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the oven at the cooker switch and isolate the appliance at the mains (remove fuse or switch off circuit breaker). Allow the oven to cool completely before working on it.
- Power reset: Leave the oven powered off for 5–10 minutes, then restore power and see if F1 clears. If it returns immediately when heating is requested, suspect the sensor circuit.
- Access the temperature sensor: Open the oven door and locate the temperature probe at the rear of the cavity (usually top rear). Remove the fixing screws and gently pull the sensor tip forward to access the connector.
- Check connections: Inspect the sensor plug and wiring for heat damage, loose pins, or corrosion. Reseat the connector firmly.
- Test the sensor: With a multimeter set to resistance (ohms), measure across the sensor terminals. A typical AGA NTC sensor will read in the range of ~1–1.5 kΩ at room temperature (exact value varies by model). An open circuit (OL) or near 0 Ω indicates a failed sensor.
- Inspect wiring to control board: If the sensor tests OK, trace the harness back to the main control PCB behind the control panel. Look for pinched, burnt, or broken wires and repair or replace as needed.
- Replace faulty parts: If the sensor is out of spec, replace the oven temperature sensor probe. If wiring and sensor are good, the control PCB temperature input circuit is likely faulty and the control board should be replaced.
Note: If you are not comfortable testing live circuits or removing the control panel, contact an AGA-authorized technician.
