Possible Causes

Shorted oven temperature sensor (RTD), Stuck-closed bake relay on control board, Stuck-closed broil relay on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the oven and shut off power at the breaker immediately to prevent damage or fire.

  • Allow cooling: Let the oven cool completely before working on it.
  • Check oven sensor resistance: Locate the oven temperature sensor probe inside the oven cavity (usually on the rear wall). Remove the mounting screws and gently pull the sensor forward to access the connector. With power off, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature (~70°F / 21°C), it should read about 1080–1100 Ω. A reading far lower (shorted) or open (OL) indicates a bad sensor.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the sensor harness from the probe to the control board for burns, cuts, or loose connections.
  • Control board evaluation: If the sensor tests good, the bake or broil relay on the EOC may be stuck closed. With power off, inspect the board for burnt spots or welded relay contacts. Replace the EOC if relays are defective.
  • Test operation: After replacing the sensor or EOC, restore power and run the oven at 350°F. Monitor to ensure it cycles on and off and does not overshoot excessively.

Warning: Do not continue using an oven that overheats; this is a fire hazard.
