American Range Temperature Calibration or Sensor Drift

Oven temperature is consistently too hot or too cold compared to the set temperature.

Possible Causes

Aged oven temperature sensor, Control board calibration offset, Poor air circulation due to blocked vents or racks

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Use proper oven mitts when placing or removing thermometers from a hot oven.

  • Verify with thermometer: Place an accurate oven thermometer in the center of the oven. Preheat to 350°F and allow 20–30 minutes. Compare the reading to the set temperature.
  • Control calibration: Many American Range models allow temperature offset adjustment in the user settings. Refer to the manual to adjust the oven calibration up or down (e.g., ±35°F) to match the actual temperature.
  • Sensor check: If the offset required is large (>35°F), test the oven sensor resistance at room temperature. Replace if out of spec.
  • Airflow: Avoid blocking convection fans or vents with large pans or foil, which can cause uneven readings.

Note: Always test temperature with the oven fully preheated and stabilized.
