Possible Causes
Shorted NTC sensor, Sensor wiring shorted together, Moisture intrusion in sensor connector, Control board misreading sensor due to internal short
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before inspection.
- Remove and inspect sensor: Unscrew the sensor from the oven cavity and pull it out carefully. Check for visible damage, cracks, or signs of moisture.
- Measure resistance: At room temperature, measure resistance across the sensor pins. A reading near 0 Ω indicates a shorted sensor. Replace the sensor if shorted or out of specification.
- Inspect harness for shorts: With the sensor disconnected, check resistance between each harness wire and the oven chassis. Any low resistance indicates a short to ground; locate and repair the damaged section of wiring.
- Dry connectors: If there are signs of moisture (from steam leaks or cleaning), dry the connectors thoroughly and ensure the grommet where the sensor enters the cavity is intact to prevent steam ingress.
- Control board check: If a known-good sensor and harness still produce F4, the main control board may be defective and should be replaced.
