Possible Causes
Shorted oven temperature sensor, Sensor wiring shorted to chassis, Melted sensor harness insulation, Moisture intrusion in sensor connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before removing panels or touching wiring.
- Inspect sensor and wiring: Remove the oven temperature sensor from the rear wall inside the cavity. Examine the sensor body and wiring for burn marks, melted insulation, or signs of a short to metal.
- Test sensor resistance: With the sensor disconnected, measure resistance across its terminals. A reading near 0 Ω indicates a shorted sensor; replace it.
- Check for harness shorts: With the sensor removed, inspect the harness route through the rear of the oven. Look for spots where the wire may have rubbed against sharp metal or been pinched. Repair or replace damaged sections and secure with high‑temperature wire ties.
- Dry connectors: If there is evidence of moisture (from steam cleaning or spills), dry the connector thoroughly and allow time for evaporation before reassembly.
- Control board evaluation: If sensor and wiring are good but F4 persists, the EOC input circuit may be shorted internally; replace the electronic oven control (EOC).
