Possible Causes
Overheated or jammed door lock motor, Deformed latch from high temperature, Faulty lock position sensor, Control board not detecting lock status
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Allow the oven to cool completely. Disconnect from mains before attempting to release a stuck lock from inside the cabinet.
- Wait for cooling: After a pyrolytic cycle, the door may remain locked until the cavity temperature drops below a threshold. Wait at least 30–60 minutes before assuming a fault.
- Power reset: Turn off the breaker for 10 minutes, then restore power. Sometimes the lock will reset and release after a power cycle.
- Manual release: If the door remains locked, remove the oven from the cabinet and access the lock mechanism from the top/front. Many Balay locks have a manual release lever that can be moved with a screwdriver to open the door.
- Inspect mechanism: Check for melted plastic parts, bent latch, or debris obstructing movement. Replace the entire lock assembly if any components are heat-damaged.
- Sensor check: Test the lock position switch(es) with a multimeter. If the control never sees the "locked" or "unlocked" signal, E012 will recur.
- Test pyro cycle: After replacing the lock, run a short test pyrolytic cycle while monitoring the lock operation. If E012 reappears, the control board lock driver circuit may be faulty and require replacement.
