Possible Causes
Failed grill element, Faulty grill selector switch, Loose or burnt grill wiring, Defective grill relay on control PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power at the cooker switch and isolate at the consumer unit before working on the grill section.
- Visual check of grill element: Open the oven door and inspect the grill element at the top of the cavity. Look for sagging, cracks, or burn spots.
- Continuity test: Remove the top or rear panel (depending on model) to access the grill element terminals. Disconnect the wires and test with a multimeter. A healthy grill element typically shows 20–40 Ω. Replace if open circuit.
- Check selector switch: On some Belling cookers, a mechanical selector switch routes power to the grill. Remove the control panel fascia and inspect the switch for burnt contacts or melted plastic. If the switch feels loose or intermittent, replace it.
- Inspect wiring and connectors: Ensure all spade connectors are tight and free from overheating. Replace any damaged high-temperature wiring.
- If PCB controlled: If your model uses an electronic control board and the element tests good, the grill relay on the PCB may have failed. PCB replacement is usually required and should be done by a professional.
