Possible Causes

Faulty ignition spark generator, Defective ignition electrode, Poor earth connection, Blocked burner ports preventing ignition

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off gas supply and isolate electrical power before working on gas components. If you smell gas continuously, ventilate the area and contact a Gas Safe registered engineer immediately.

  • Check for spark: With the oven door open, start an ignition cycle and observe whether a spark appears at the burner electrode. If no spark, suspect the spark generator or wiring.
  • Inspect electrode: Check the ceramic insulator and metal tip of the electrode for cracks, heavy carbon deposits, or misalignment. Clean gently and reposition so the tip is close to the burner.
  • Clean burner: Remove the burner and clean the ports with a soft brush or pin to remove blockages that may prevent gas flow near the electrode.
  • Check wiring and earth: Ensure the electrode lead is firmly connected to the spark generator and that the appliance has a good earth connection.
  • Replace faulty parts: If there is still no spark, replace the ignition generator module and/or electrode with Belling-approved parts. Gas work should be carried out by a qualified engineer.
