Possible Causes
Weak or failed thermocouple, Misaligned flame not heating thermocouple, Faulty flame failure valve, Poor thermocouple connection at gas valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off gas and power before working on gas components. Gas repairs should be performed by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
- Observe flame: When the oven lights, check that the flame properly envelopes the thermocouple tip. If the flame is small or uneven, clean the burner ports.
- Inspect thermocouple: Check for kinks, cracks, or signs of overheating. Ensure the tip is correctly positioned in the flame.
- Check connections: Verify that the thermocouple is tightly secured into the gas valve body and that any electrical connections are clean and tight.
- Replace thermocouple: If the flame consistently goes out after a few seconds, the thermocouple may not be generating enough voltage to hold the valve open. Replace with a compatible Belling thermocouple.
- Test operation: After replacement, test ignition and confirm the flame remains stable. If the problem persists, the gas valve or flame failure device may need replacement by a professional.
