Safety first: Turn off gas supply and electrical power before servicing. If you smell strong gas, ventilate the area and do not operate electrical switches; contact a professional immediately.

• Verify gas supply: Ensure the manual gas shutoff valve to the oven is open and that other gas appliances are working.
• Observe ignition (if safe): With panels in place, restore power and gas, then start a bake cycle. Look through the oven window to see if the igniter glows or sparks. Turn power off again before further work.
• Inspect and clean burner: Remove the oven bottom panel to access the burner. Clean ports with a soft brush and ensure the burner is properly seated and aligned with the igniter.
• Test igniter: For glow-bar igniters, measure resistance; a very high resistance or no glow indicates replacement is needed. For spark systems, check for cracked ceramic or carbon tracking.
• Check flame sensor / ignition module: If the igniter works but the flame does not stay lit, the flame sensor or ignition module may be faulty and should be tested or replaced by a qualified technician.
