Possible Causes
Grease buildup on elements or cavity surfaces, Food debris on bottom panel, Insulation or wiring overheating, Foreign object near elements
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If heavy smoke occurs, turn off the oven, open windows, and keep the door closed until smoke subsides. Disconnect power before internal inspection.
- Inspect cavity: Once cool, remove racks and bottom panel. Clean any spilled food or grease from the cavity and elements using oven-safe cleaners.
- Check around elements: Look for plastic, packaging, or other foreign materials that may have fallen onto or near the elements; remove them.
- Inspect wiring and insulation (if smell is electrical): Remove rear panel and look for scorched insulation or melted wiring. Replace any damaged components and correct the cause of overheating (e.g., blocked vents).
- Run a short high-heat burn-off: After cleaning, run the oven empty at a moderate temperature to burn off residual odors, monitoring closely.
