Possible Causes
Open thermal cut-out (TCO), Overheated cavity due to blocked vents, Faulty cooling fan, Shorted temperature sensor causing overheat
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and allow the oven to cool completely before inspection.
- Check ventilation: Ensure the built-in oven has proper clearance and that upper and rear vents are not blocked by cabinetry, foil, or items stored above.
- Inspect cooling fan: Remove the top cover and run the oven briefly (with power restored) to confirm the cooling fan runs when the oven is heating. If the fan does not start, turn power off and test the fan motor for continuity.
- Locate thermal cut-out: Bosch ovens typically have a thermal cut-out mounted on the top or rear of the cavity. With power off, access the back or top and locate the small round or rectangular thermostat with two wires.
- Test TCO: Disconnect wires and check continuity with a multimeter. An open reading indicates it has tripped or failed. Some are manual-reset (small button in the center); press gently to reset if present.
- Replace if needed: If the TCO is non-resettable or will not reset, replace it with the exact Bosch-rated thermal cut-out. Investigate and correct any cooling or venting issues before operating again.
