Possible Causes
Tripped thermal cut-out thermostat, Blocked ventilation causing overheating, Failed cooling fan, Faulty overheat thermostat stuck open
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and allow the oven to cool completely. Components may be extremely hot.
- Check ventilation: Ensure that the oven's top and rear vents are not blocked by cabinetry, foil, or other obstructions.
- Inspect cooling fan operation: Once cool, restore power and start a low-temperature program. Confirm that the cooling fan runs. If not, test and replace the fan motor as needed.
- Locate thermal cut-out: Many Bush ovens have a resettable or non-resettable thermal cut-out on the top or rear of the cavity. Test for continuity. If open and non-resettable, replace it.
- Reset (if applicable): Some cut-outs have a small reset button. With power off and oven cool, press the button to reset. If it trips again, investigate the cause of overheating before further use.
- Re-test: After replacing or resetting the cut-out and ensuring proper cooling, test the oven. If E17 persists, the control board may be misreading temperature and require replacement.
