Possible Causes
Failed door lock motor assembly, Broken or jammed door latch, Faulty door lock switch or wiring to EOC
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn off power at the breaker. The door lock mechanism can move unexpectedly; keep fingers clear of linkages.
- Check door movement: With power off, gently try to open and close the door. If it binds or feels misaligned, inspect hinges and latch for obstructions or bent parts.
- Access lock assembly: Remove the top panel or rear panel (depending on model) to access the door lock motor and latch assembly. Look for broken plastic arms, disconnected rods, or burnt connectors.
- Test lock motor: With power restored and extreme caution, start a self-clean cycle and listen for the lock motor. If it does not run, test for voltage at the motor terminals (this step is best for trained persons).
- Inspect switches: Many Café lock assemblies include position switches. Check continuity of these switches with a multimeter while manually moving the latch.
- Replace assembly: If the motor is open, gears are stripped, or switches fail continuity tests, replace the complete door lock motor and latch assembly.
