Possible Causes
Failed temperature sensor (NTC probe), Loose or corroded sensor connector, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Faulty main control PCB temperature input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate the oven from mains power before removing any panels.
- Locate the sensor: Inside the oven cavity, find the thin metal probe (usually at the rear or top). From the rear of the appliance, trace its wiring to the main PCB.
- Check for damage: Inspect the probe for deformation, heavy grease build-up, or signs of overheating. Clean gently with a non-abrasive cleaner if coated in grease.
- Test resistance: Disconnect the sensor plug and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature (20–25°C), most Caple NTC sensors read around 500–1100 Ω (exact value varies by model). If reading is open circuit or shorted (near 0 Ω), replace the sensor.
- Inspect connector: Ensure the sensor plug is fully seated on the PCB and that pins are not oxidised. Clean lightly if needed and reconnect.
- Recalibrate (if available): Some Caple models allow temperature offset adjustment in the settings menu. After replacing the sensor, run a test bake with an oven thermometer and adjust offset if the manual permits.
- If readings are correct but error persists: The main PCB’s temperature input circuit may be defective and will likely need replacement by a professional.
